Paint By Paddle is a one-thumb arcade game for iPhone. A ball bounces around a walled board; thread it through the gaps in the walls and, once it is inside, it paints a pixel-art picture in, brick by brick.

How to play

• Move the paddle: drag anywhere on the screen. The paddle moves by the distance your finger moves, so you never have to touch the paddle itself.
• Launch the ball: tap the screen while the ball is resting on the paddle (“Tap to launch” shows whenever it is waiting).
• Lives: you have three balls per picture. Lose all three and the picture resets with three fresh balls.
• Finishing: when almost every brick is painted, the last few fill themselves in.
• Your progress: the game remembers every picture you have painted. The title screen then offers Continue with the next picture, and painting a picture again shows your best time for it.

Pause

Tap the II button in the top-right corner to pause. The game also pauses by itself when you leave it while the ball is moving (going to the Home Screen, locking the iPhone, a call, Siri, Control Center). Tap Continue to carry on: the ball waits a moment (“Get ready”) before it moves again, so you can find the paddle first.

Settings

Tap Settings at the bottom of the title screen or the pause screen:

• Sound: On / Off turns the game’s sounds on or off. The game remembers your choice.
• Reduce effects: Off / On shows fewer paint droplets and no white flash when bricks are painted.
• Privacy policy opens the privacy page of this site.
• The version and build number are shown near the bottom; please include them when you report a problem.

Common questions

Is there sound when my iPhone is in Silent Mode? Yes. Paint By Paddle plays its sounds even in Silent Mode, whether you switched it on with the ring/silent switch or the Action button, because it is a game. Music or podcasts from other apps keep playing underneath. To play without sound, turn Sound off in the game’s Settings; the volume buttons set how loud it is.

How do I start over? Once you have painted at least one picture, the title screen has a Start from level 1 button next to Continue (a fresh game just says Start; once every picture is painted, the button says Play again from level 1). It takes you back to the first picture, and you paint your way through again. Starting over keeps the pictures you have painted and your best times, and Continue still points at your next unpainted picture. Deleting the app erases all progress.

Where is my progress saved? On your iPhone only: the pictures you have painted, your best times and your settings. They are never uploaded anywhere (they are included in your own iPhone backups, like any app’s data). Deleting the app erases them.

Do I need an account or an internet connection? No. There is nothing to sign in to, and the game works fully offline.

Does the app contain ads or purchases? No. The game is free, with no advertising and no in-app purchases.
